ABOUT QUEEN STREET STUDIO
Queen Street Studio is a non-profit creative development and rehearsal facility run by artists for artists. Opened in June 2005, Queen Street Studio is a response to the lack of affordable rehearsal studio space for artists in Sydney to practise their craft.
Queen Street Studio primarily supports unfunded independent artists. The rehearsal studio rates are designed to subsidise the unfunded independent artists through income generated by the funded, commercial and non-arts hire categories.
Queen Street Studio also produces professional development programs for Sydney’s independent performing arts community that are relevant and responsive to the sector in dealing with art practise sustainability, skills development and creative capacity building.
Queen Street Studio is passionately committed to encouraging the growth and profile of independent artists in Sydney. The project is driven by the belief that in providing affordable space and appropriate professional development opportunities to the performing arts sector, Sydney artists will be encouraged to create new work and in doing so forge an independent performance culture to enrich the cultural life of Sydney.
The vision for Queen Street Studio is to be a recognised and sustainable arts service and facility that provides a platform of support for the development of arts practise. At this stage the studio receives no government funding for the day-to-day operations of the facility. All income generated through the studio goes to paying the rent, utilities, and the on-going maintenance of the space.
