QUEEN STREET STUDIO IS HEADING EAST
Heffron Hall to open in March

Thanks to a City of Sydney Accommodation Grant, Queen Street Studio will open a new rehearsal facility at HEFFRON HALL on Burton St in Darlinghurst on the 1st of March 2010. With approx 160sqm of clear space, it’s got a classic old style hall feel to it with a view out the North facing windows towards Sydney Harbour. We have a bit of work to do before we are ready to make it available – such as stripping the venue, painting and laying a new floor… but in the meantime, here’s a sneak peek of what it looks like now.

www.queenstreetstudio.com/heffron.html

HEFFRON HALL will appear as a new resource for hire on our bookings calendar soon. It will have the same operating hours, same price and same booking procedure as FraserStudios. Stay tuned for our Open Day where we will launch this new facility for Sydney’s independent performing arts.

A ‘pie in the sky’ idea that will take the form of illustrations and sketches of preparatory visions of much larger projects.

MOP projects: 2/39 Abercrombie St, Chippendale

ARTISTS NEED DESKS TOO
Business Hub Survey

Queen Street Studio is researching the need and viability within the arts sector for an ARTS-BUSINESS HUB at its FraserStudios facility. The idea of the ARTS-BUSINESS HUB would be to offer ‘hot-desks’ where artists can do desk-based research, management and coordination of their arts-based work or project... in a creative, shared environment. In order to help us better understand the expectations, behaviours and conditions artists need to work under when considering an ARTS-BUSINESS HUB – we want to hear from you.

Follow this link to an online survey that will take around 5 minutes to complete: http://www.zoomerang.com/Survey/?p=WEB229WCUDT3BG

Client testimonials

“Its been great being affiliated with various events/classes/workshops/readings at FraserStudios over this year. Its a wonderful space and all hail to you and Sam for making it happen!!! It is much much appreciated as a vital organ by me and the whole independent sector – you guys do a great job!”
– Nikki Heywood

“What a top idea – so many of us need temporary office space for projects. You guys are awesome.”
– Imogen Semmler

“I just wanted to say a HUGE thank you for letting the lunch club happen at FraserStudios last weekend. There were more than 45 artists who came along to eat, drink and have
a chat. And going from the comments and feedback I had on the day and during the week I think it was a success. People are VERY keen for the next one. Not sure when I have time to do this - maybe in Spring?? Anyway thanks again for being so generous in time and space and for working so hard to give opportunity to the community.”

Rosie Dennis

“Re: Off The Shelf; A workshop for testing and refining theatrical works-in-progress. This was an outstanding event and an excellent cultural initiative for Sydney. Workshops such as this are commonplace in the US and UK, and yet practitioners in this country, particularly emerging ones, rarely get an opportunity to engage in them. The ability to ‘test drive’ a potential show in front of a critical audience is an invaluable service for all theatre practitioners, but especially new talent. Such a service also creates a centralised talent pool that ultimately elevates the overall standard of theatre in Sydney. And that can only be a benefit to the community. What is needed is a reliable space and resources, and a systematic process by which they are used. “Off The Shelf” has proved itself to be that service.”
Boris Ivanoff

“I would like to formally thank you for giving us such a wonderful 2 weeks in Studio 14. I cannot thank you enough. I was able to achieve all my objectives and more. You guys are doing a stellar job and I thank you from the depths of my choreographic heart!!!”
Sue Healey

“Wow, you guys are just amazing and awesome and such a valuable addition to the arts industry. Please keep doing what you are doing and we will continue to be fans! Cheers and here’s to the long life of The Studios, be they Queen Street, Studio 14 or whatever you’d like to call them . . . The studios suits me!!”
Carmel May

“Hi guys, thanks so much for the hire of the studio, it was just what we needed. And we were both so impressed by the studio itself, wow, what a beautiful space . . . We are living in Berlin at the moment, and there is nothing like it over there.”
Pen Dale

“I have been rehearsing/training with two different groups and it is a beautiful space to work in. James and Sam’s attention to detail in fitting out the space has made it the perfect balance between a welcoming, relaxed meeting place and a clear, no-nonsense space for work. The two, interlocking spaces in the studio mean that you can clearly separate your work on the floor with any helloing, goodbyeing, talking, and tea-sipping that needs to be done. Really, the space is exquisite and I recommend it to anyone who needs to be in a funky, practical and clear space to make work.”
Alice Osborne

“Polished floor boards, privacy, tea, biscuits, a beautiful view, friendly owners, affordable, clean and lovely! Queen Street Studio . . . what more could a writing group on zero budget want? Thanks James and Sam for helping us to make it happen . . . the future is looking sparkly.”
The QUT writers

“I love this space and when I see the look on everyone’s face when they first come in, it says the same thing too. So much room, great equipment and a beautiful atmosphere. I’m really impressed with the effort made to put together a decent, low-cost teaching and rehearsal space in a convient central location.”
Hilary Cinnis

“The space at Queen Street Studio appeared out of the darkness to us like a friendly angel. It is large, conveniently located, affordable and more importantly, run by artists dedicated to many of the ideas and matters (such as a sense of community with the space) that mattered to us as well. Curious Works is glad to be part of its beginnings and has thus far had a very relaxed, easy relationship with James and Sam who run the space.”
Shakthi
