A new FREE visual art space, produced for Frasers Property by Queen Street Studio

FraserStudios in the SMH » HERE

Frasers Property have introduced a new initiative to make creative use of vacant warehouse space in the old Kent Brewery development site, on Broadway. From September, three warehouses at 10-14 Kensington Street, Chippendale were temporarily transformed into a multi-disciplinary art space, with the help of Queen Street Studio. (Where is this project?)

A. spacer Visual Arts Residency Program:
Studio 10, January 2009 – March 2009
Studio 10

This unique project sees Frasers Property work alongside Queen Street Studio to produce a creative program of activity from late September 2008 to October 2009.

The main aim of the project is to encourage artistic development and exchange by providing free work space and subsidised rehearsal space to both the visual and performing arts community in Sydney. FraserStudios also aims to add to the cultural life of Chippendale with an emphasis on local community development and engagement through a diversity of art form practises and skill development programs.

The project will be produced by Queen Street Studio who will manage the visual arts Residency Program in Studio 10.

Call for Proposals:

A. spacer FraserStudios VISUAL ARTS RESIDENCY Program 2008-2009
Studio 10

FraserStudios VISUAL ARTS RESIDENCY Program in Studio 10 is offering free work space in a 3 storey heritage building located at 10 Kensington Street, Chippendale; a building that, in its lifetime has been a fire station, a police car impound and a rum store. It is a rustic warehouse space with a common ground floor for all artists to share and 4-5 workspace areas on both the first and second floors. All floors are open-plan so the ability to work in a shared space with other artists is a prerequisite.

The FraserStudios Project will offer four 3-month residencies (12 weeks) to 8-10 visual artists/groups per residency.

The residencies will be open to professional artists and groups (emerging and established) encompassing a diverse range of practises and outcomes. The program takes a very broad view of the term “visual arts” and may include, but is not limited to; painting, sculpture, photography, digital arts, textiles, installation and design.

All artists must come from NSW and priority will be given to local visual artists (defined as inner-city, Sydney) whose practice has been disrupted by development in the local community. Artists will need to supply their own equipment and materials specific to their chosen art-form and will have access to their workspace between 7am-11pm, 7 days a week for the duration of their residency.
